Bongbong at Kris

Playwright Bienvenido M. Noriega, Jr. wrote one of the first original Filipino plays to be written and staged after the fall of the Marcos regime, He described the 1987 play, which won a prize in the 1987 Cultural Center of the Philippines play writing contest as "romansa't komedya sa pelikula't pulitika.

It is considered one of the landmark theatre productions with more than 50 performances at the Bulwagang Gantimpala of CCP and many more in various venues across the country. It was described as a funny pointed satire which imagined a reconciliation between the Aquino and Marcos families. It was set in 1991 with Bongbong Marcos as a rebel leader hiding in the mountains, who kidnapped superstar Kris Aquino, in order to force President Corazon Aquino to allow Marcos to return to the Philippines. And ala Romeo and Juliet, Bong bong and Kris fell in love.

The play was a huge success with a young Ricky Davao playing Bongbong, while Tricia Amper Jimenez as Kris.

In her book review in 1988, Doreen Fernandez wrote:

“Noriega’s skill is especially evident in the dialogue. The writer’s ear is true and his comic hand sure. It is welcome comedy, since not too many contemporary playwrights - and indeed comparatively few in the history of Philippine drama - have devoted their talents to the comic genre. And it is welcome laughter, since it comments lightly but pointedly on the world of “pelikula’t politika” – on the mores and manners, on the pulsing and possible lives within Philippine media and politics. “
